This course provides nurses with practical skills to recognise, assess and respond to acute deterioration in older people, including the often-subtle and atypical signs of sepsis. You will learn to identify changes from a resident’s usual baseline, use tools such as Stop and Watch, ABCDE and NZEWS, apply clinical judgement to assessment findings, and escalate care promptly when serious or life-threatening changes are identified. The course emphasises the importance of early recognition, systematic assessment and timely escalation to improve outcomes for deteriorating residents.
